The emperor's new clothes / Müller's puppet theater
Theatrical fairy tale based on Hans Christian Andersen, adapted by Günther Weißenborn with music by Georg Friedrich Händel
An emperor, obsessed with external splendor, is persuaded by two clever impostors that they can create a garment that only clever and industrious people can see. Blinded by vanity, he showers them with riches and waits for the results. When he finally stands proudly before his people with the supposedly miraculous garments, no one dares to say that he is actually standing there naked - no one except a child who openly expresses what everyone sees.
Müllers Marionettentheater, Wuppertal's most influential puppet theater company, has revived this story as a lavishly produced film version. The presentation at the festival pays tribute to the extraordinary artistic heritage of this theater.
Followed by an artist talk with Müller's Marionette Theater (approx. 15 minutes), moderated by Christofer Schmidt.
Duration: 40 minutes
