In the organizer's words:

"Every man is an abyss." These words from Woyzeck are more relevant today than ever. Who is the oppressed and who is the oppressor in our society? What happens when Woyzeck is not a soldier, but a stranger - stranded in a world that initially welcomes him benevolently, but doesn't really understand him? And what happens when the "locals" see themselves as helpful, but are overwhelmed by their everyday lives?

To mark the 35th anniversary of the DGT, Papakostopoulos rewrites Büchner's material, relocates the plot to present-day Cologne and turns Woyzeck into a stranger who encounters a society that threatens to fail due to its own excessive demands. A world that preaches openness but in reality remains exclusionary.
