The play links the ancient tragedy "The Trojan Women" by Euripides with current social and political realities. Especially in view of the numerous current armed conflicts and systematic discrimination against minorities worldwide, the topics of flight, violence and disenfranchisement need new visibility and urgency on stage.
At the center of the play are the "Trojan Women", whose fate exemplifies the suffering of innocent civilians under war, occupation and loss. The production transposes this motif to the present day and poses the urgent question: Who are these women today? How can the cruel effects of armed conflict on the civilian population, on women, children and the elderly be made visible and comprehensible? The production uses a largely wordless theatrical language and relies on an interplay of physical theater, live music, video projections, sculptural stage design and a concise lighting direction.
"DIASPORA. A Contemporary Tragedy" brings a new cultural and decolonial perspective to the stage. The production thus opens up a contemporary theatrical language that sets both aesthetic and political impulses.
