Neukölln is in shock: After decades of a comfortable life as a state-supported icon of the precariat, Edith Schröder has taken a job! That’s because our “Futschiqueen” has inherited something—namely, a food truck in trendy Mitte. “If they can charge 18 euros up there for a squished avocado on Lidl toast, then let’s see what I can get for a meatball on a roll!” she tells herself, and enlists her friends—bar owner Jutta and neighborhood slut Biggy—to sell expired sausages, soggy fries, and warm beer to the urban clientele.

Wearing a cat-print T-shirt, leopard-print leggings, and a blouse with shoulder pads, the three vixens take on downtown and, at their grill, run into soy latte hipsters, foodie influencers, and wayward lawmakers who just don’t get the Neukölln scene at all. Amid gluten-free lentil balls and bockwurst from the sausage clearance market, cultures clash: helicopter parents are up in arms over the stench of grease and “aesthetic harassment,” and conservative politicians demand brown sauce instead of curry seasoning. The fact that Biggy then also offers “Happy Hour with a Happy Ending” and a widow unexpectedly lays claim to the inheritance doesn’t help matters either.

Anyone who wants to find out whether the green stuff on the meat is really just marinade—and how many Futschis you’ll need after enjoying Edith’s sausages—should stop by the BKA Theater starting in July. Here, the Ades Zabel Company, with its latest Neuköllnical “Three Dragons from the Grill,” spans the vast arc from the Super 8 films—which were shot as a parody of the similarly named SFB series—to its current successes as a modern folk theater on Mehringdamm.
