In her new collection of essays Nothing to say. Hear nothing. See nothing. the Cologne-based writer and Heinrich Böll Prize winner Kathrin Röggla shows herself to be an original observer and analyst of our present day and its debates. In her new book, she precisely dissects discourse and media phenomena such as the conspiracy narratives in a Reichsbürger trial, in which Reichsbürger sit next to Kathrin Röggla in the visitors' gallery and show solidarity with the defendants, or the loud demands to position oneself in the debate about 7 October, while it has become quiet around the climate. "They say you can't hear something because it's too quiet, but the exact opposite can also be said. If something is too loud, semantics are lost. Words become indistinguishable, anyone who shouts is already wrong for this reason too, it used to be said, but today I'm no longer so sure.
