Fleeing from a giant serpent leaves Prince Tamino shaken and unconscious. When he regains consciousness, the bird seller Papageno boasts grandly about having slain the monster. The Queen of the Night tasks this unlikely duo with freeing her daughter, Pamina, from the clutches of the supposed tyrant Sarastro.
The multimedia cult production by Barrie Kosky and “1927” is a real eye-catcher. The imaginative interplay of stage design, music, and video animation elegantly transports Mozart’s opera into the present day.
