Balkan Beats & Brass - Romani Sounds - Klezmer - Polka Punk - East-European Ska - Balalaika-Rock'n'Roll
DJs: Wladimir Kaminer & Karacho Rabaukin
The legendary Diskoteka Balkanska is coming back to Kreuzberg - exactly when Berlin is upside down anyway: on May 1st. To celebrate the workers' day of struggle, there will not only be demonstrations at SO36, but also dancing. Because after the revolution is before the party - or was it the other way around?
In any case, two special personalities from Berlin's nightlife culture will be on the turntables.
Wladimir Kaminer is known to many as a bestselling author and storyteller - but his DJ sets are just as legendary.
As a DJ, Kaminer brings the atmosphere of his books to the dance floor, as he once did in the legendary Kaffee Burger: a wild, humorous and surprising mix of Ukrainian pop, gypsy punk, klezmer ska, balalaika rock'n'roll and post-Soviet club tracks. His sets celebrate the diversity of Eastern European music - always with a wink and guaranteed to get you dancing.
Kaminer's musical motto seems to be: When the world gets complicated, just dance faster.
He is supported by Karacho Rabaukin, the host of Diskoteka Balkanska. Her DJ sets are notorious for explosive Balkan fanfares, polka punk from the Carpathians, Romani beats, ska, klezmer and Balkan pop - a musical journey from traditional folklore sounds to modern club rhythms.
Together they celebrate Berlin's cosmopolitan nightlife, its cultural diversity, where tradition and club culture merge into an exuberant, international dance party.
Workers of all countries - unite! ...on the dancefloor 😉
