A Spectacle of Virtuosity
With “Don Quixote,” Marius Petipa created one of the most colorful ballets in the classical repertoire: Kitri, the innkeeper’s daughter, and Basilio, the barber, fight for their happiness with wit and spirit, accompanied by Don Quixote and his faithful Sancho Panza.
In Marcelo Gomes’s new version for the Ballett am Rhein, the impressive elements of the original are preserved: grand ensemble numbers, technically demanding solos, and pas de deux. With a focus on the characters and their emotions, he presents a dazzling display of ballet virtuosity, based on Petipa’s original version.
