DOROTHEE JOACHIM: neu aufgestellt

With a specific selection of works from various bodies of work and periods—tailored to the exhibition context and the atmosphere of the space and its surroundings—Dorothee Joachim presents her paintings —and thus the art space as well—in a new light.
Her solo exhibition in 1985 at the Hahnen-tor-burg, then the exhibition venue of Cologne’s BBK, marked her “coming-out” as a painter of color; a documentary record of this will be featured in the current exhibition.

Dorothee Joachim completed her studies in Fine Arts at the Kölner Werkschulen / Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Department of Art & Design, in 1982 as a master student of Prof. Dieter Kraemer. Since the^mid-1980s, her work has focused on further developing her unique approach within color-field painting. For more than 25 years, she has been creating, among other things, site-specific, temporary painting interventions developed for each location—for example, the 2011 project IM ROHBAU, W7, Haus Wallrath + Jacob in Cologne-Lindenthal, and in 2024 the installation FARBSPEICHER in the tower space of the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne.

In 2012, she was awarded the Leo Breuer Prize by the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR); In 2020–21, her work was supported by a grant from the Ministry of Culture and the Arts (MKW) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and in 2022 by the NEUSTART KULTUR grant from the Kunstfonds Foundation. In 2023, she received a research and work grant from the City of Cologne, and in 2024, a work grant from the Kunstfonds Foundation.
