Reut Shemesh: Esther (Cologne) / 20:00h
A Dance Piece About Youth & Uniforms | From 13+
In ESTHER, five adult performers review their youth and connect it with the current young generation. They combine fragments of urban dance, folk dances and dance videos. Reflecting on their own upbringing, they share memories of their youth and bring uniforms, symbols, behaviors, rituals and their social class into a nuanced relationship, illuminating the delicate balance between conformity and individuality.
Reut Shemesh, born in Tel Aviv, works in contemporary dance, experimental film and poetry. She studied at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem and at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. She has lived and worked in Cologne since 2011. One focus of her work is multimedia dance performances, often combined with research into Jewish women's culture and education. Her pieces have been shown internationally and won several awards.
