DRAUSSEN BRENNT'S, which premiered in the feature film competition at this year's Max Ophüls Prize festival for young filmmakers, was directed by Ella Haas as a graduation film from the Berlin University of Applied Sciences. In this semi-documentary improv film, the Heidelberg-born filmmaker explores the contradictory emotions of this recent history and takes an authentic and approachable look at the everyday lives of young people and their problems during the turbulent early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Spring 2020: With the world in lockdown, friends Toni, Mia, Matze, Pauli and Elena decide to isolate themselves in Pauli's empty parents' house. In fact, their first time in the spacious property with its garden feels almost carefree as they brave the pandemic together. But the idyll is deceptive, as the euphoria soon gives way to boredom - and existential fears and mental problems weigh on the group. And so the five are faced with the question of whether isolation will lead to the strengthening or disintegration of their friendship...
