DUATO / SKEELS / EYAL

Sometimes you want to escape the world - the three choreographies in this new triple bill entitled "Duato/Skeels/Eyal", which opens the Ballettfestwoche 2024, revolve around different forms of escaping the world. Following Bedroom Folk by Sharon Eyal, which was first shown at the Bayerisches Staatsballett as part of Paradigma in 2020, Autodance is the second work by the Israeli-born choreographer. With the Greek prefix "auto", Eyal refers to a dance that is purely self-referential and poses the question of one's own identity. You can look forward to Ori Lichtik's usual electronic club beats, which bring to mind excessive party nights and unearthly harmonies of the spheres.

For Nacho Duato, the trigger for White Darkness was the death of his sister. The work was created for the Compañía Nacional de Danza in Madrid and deals with the fatal pull of intoxicants. It is accompanied by the second Adiemus variation for string quartet by Karl Jenkins, which captures the Mephistophelean nature of sweet poison in sound with its suction-like effect.

A world premiere will be created by North American Andrew Skeels, who is working with the Bayerisches Staatsballett for the first time. His choreographic language is characterized by a cinematic aesthetic, which is characterized by speed, flowing movements and a desire to take risks.
