Few places in Berlin are as well-known as Checkpoint Charlie and the East Side Gallery.
But who knows the stories behind these landmarks that attract millions of visitors every year?
The answer: Dr. Hanno Hochmuth, Sonja Hugi and students on the Master's degree course in Public History at Freie Universität Berlin.
As part of a seminar, they took an in-depth look at these places and published their findings on the Chronicle of the Wall website. They report on their research into selected works of art, objects and historical traces at the East Side Gallery and Checkpoint Charlie.
