Echos der Leidenschaft

In the organizer's words:

Three choreographic world premieres

Carmen. Shortly before his execution, an officer in prison looks back on his encounter, love and life with the beautiful Carmen. He remembers moments full of passion and desire, but also raging jealousy and desperate hatred. Antoine Jully tells his choreographic version of the famous myth, inspired by Prosper Mérimée's novella from 1845.

Lullaby. The former first soloist of the Stuttgart Ballet and internationally very successful British guest choreographer Douglas Lee creates "Lullaby": memories of melodies from childhood that can calm and disturb at the same time. Movement joins together to form temporary shapes. Delicate and dreamlike, they emerge from the darkness, collapse and leave behind residues; fragments of a dream or nightmare. Light not only illuminates, it also reveals and extinguishes again.

Karuna. A silent quality, a form of compassion that neither comforts nor judges, but is simply there, lies in "Karuna", a word from Sanskrit. Italian guest choreographer Giovanni Napoli takes it as the starting point for his piece for BallettCompagnie Oldenburg. For him, karuna also describes the line between closeness and distance, between that which hurts and that which heals, where time opens up and something can blossom.
