With their interactive performance "E.E.G. Kiss", artist duo Karen Lancel and Hermen Maat invite visitors to experience intimacy in a different way and explore questions of closeness, connection and communication in the digital age together. How is technology changing our relationships? What remains of a fleeting moment of closeness? And can data capture some of the magic of a kiss?

"E.E.G. Kiss" combines the sensual field of intimate touch with art and technology. EEG sensors are used to measure brain activity during kissing. The resulting data from the participants is transformed into a shared space of images and sounds.

Since 2014, Lancel and Maat have been presenting "E.E.G. Kiss" internationally as part of their ongoing artistic research into intimacy in the digital age. As a "digital synthetic kissing ritual", the work translates invisible physical processes and intimate gestures into something that can be seen, heard and experienced together. The boundaries between private and public, between individual and audience, begin to blur.
