Silver Egg. Die Sinnlichkeit der Medienkunst
In the organizer's words:
Eros, the god of lustful love, appears in myth and philosophy as the driving force behind cultural evolution and renewal. In connection with art, the divine Eros has developed into an influential image and thought figure of vital contexts. As soon as it comes into play as a source of inspiration, life gains in intensity and presence, and drives creativity forward. The Silver Eggexhibition pleads for an erotic attitude towards the world and asks: What are the media and forms of perception of art to meet the longings and deficiencies of our time?
In the beginning was the egg
According to a primordial scene, the god of love hatched as a creative and organizing force in the midst of cosmic winds from a silver world egg. In Greek philosophy, Eros developed into the mediator between heaven, earth and the arts. If a person senses creative connecting energies, they experience themselves drawn into life with relish. These energies of desire and self-enhancement flow into artistic, scientific and social activities.
Back to the origin of the abundance of meaning
In the history of art, the statements of the cosmogonic myth have become narrower: under the dictates of Christian ethics and logocentric orientation, Eros is primarily understood as a frivolous representative of sexual seduction. Silver Egg. The sensuality of media art ties in with the expanded mythological field in order to bring established opposites of intuition and reason, myth and science, experience and cognition, representation and immediacy into a lively structure.
Enthusiasm for art
In the history of ideas, the significance of the erotic for the production and reception of art has been established many times - from Plato to Karl Jaspers, Georges Bataille, Roland Barthes, Susan Sontag, Julia Kristeva, Audre Lorde and Jean-Luc Nancy. Intellectuality and knowledge on the one hand and enthusiasm and desire on the other form the poles of productive cooperation and opposition from which something new arises. The aesthetic space of the exhibition makes this tension directly tangible.
Confronting the possible
In order to shape their future, societies need to be sensitive to the present and have an imaginative horizon. In a time of omnipresent turbulence, disruption, aggression and political division, the exhibition pleads for a rational and at the same time sensual encounter with philosophically influenced Eros - in the testing ground of media art. Around 30 international positions of committed, experimental and poetic art combine to form a creative practice. At its center is the desire for an intensive examination of what is intellectually and technically possible.
Through the unknown into the future
In media sculptures, hybrid installations and filmic works, opportunities and questions about robotics, sensor technology, energetics, kinetics and ecology are discussed, and both conviviality and the threats to social and elementary living spaces are addressed.
The journey from the familiar to the unprotected and risky leads to daring creative processes, resulting in inspiring forms of experience and food for thought. Silver Egg invites all visitors to immerse themselves in a sensual sphere of sound, light, scent, movement and touch and to follow the pulse and rhythms of living Eros.
