Ironic sharp-tonguedness and philanthropic sarcasm - that is what makes Thomas Mann's works particularly unique. It started with weird Lübeckers and then moved on to being a dog owner and the Half Lung Association in a Swiss sanatorium, to ancient Egyptian ladies' societies and demonic or amorous chatterboxes, all the way to a shrinking saint. In the face of a doctoral thesis that only wanted to draw beer-soaked depth from all this, TM wrote in his diary: "Actually, I'm a humorist."
Dietmar Bär, Jeanette Hain and Volker Weidermann will prove it: That's true!
