When driving R'n'B 77-punk groove meets edgy post-punk and idiosyncratic art-punk, the result is the unmistakable sound of Eight Rounds Rapid. The band from Southend-on-Sea/Essex/England combines intense energy with idiosyncratic complexity and - if you're looking for cross-references - can be compared with bands such as Wire, The Fall, Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd, Fontaines D.C., Sleaford Mods or Art Brut.
Led by singer David and with Simon - son of legendary Dr. Feelgood and Ian Dury guitarist Wilko Johnson - on guitar, the band unfolds a powerful and direct sound. New to the band are Matt (drums) and Mike (bass), who have formed the rhythm section since 2025. The lyrics are as concise as they are worth listening to: clever, pointed and delivered with a sharpness that is sometimes reminiscent of a radical poetry slam.
In 2025, Eight Rounds Rapid left a lasting impression during their guest performance at Umsonst & Draußen in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. Now, after their great shows in 2017 and 2018, they are returning to the Merlin cultural center - where a live album by the band was recorded in 2017.
Their brand new, fourth album is in their luggage. Live, it will be a rousing experience, full of high-energy power and "dead-British" attitude.
