Sietze de Vries Improvisation
followed by a meet-and-greet with the artists on the organ loft
Sietze de Vries has won prizes at no fewer than 15 organ competitions, most recently taking first prize atthe International Improvisation Competition in Haarlem in 2002. He teaches at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, serves as organist at the Martinikerk there, directs the Orgel Educatie Centrum, accompanies the Roden Girl Choristers, writes articles for professional journals, and performs concerts worldwide. He doesn’t consider any of this to be work: “I don’t work—I just play!” And if he ever gets bored at home in his private church, the “Kerkhuis,” he simply switches back and forth between his 12 (!) instruments.
