Eine ehrenwerte Familie. Die Microphone Mafia – mehr als nur Musik

Reading with Kutlu Yurtseven, founding member of the rap band Microphone Mafia

When Kutlu Yurtseven and Rossi Pennino rap in Turkish, Italian and German, they look back on 35 years of Microphone Mafia. They tell the story of the band and their personal history in the book "Eine ehrenwerte Familie. The Microphone Mafia - more than just music".

Having grown up in the shadow of the Bayer factories, they initially pay tribute to the first generation of migrant workers who "gave their all". They have always stood for the self-confidence of hip-hop, which does not ask for a CV. Alongside light-hearted pieces, the band's repertoire is characterized by songs about the arson attacks of the 1990s. Kutlu experienced the NSU attack on Cologne's Keupstraße from up close - reason enough to position himself beyond music in initiatives or on the stage. The cooperation with Auschwitz survivor Esther Bejarano (she died in July 2021 at the age of 96) and her son Joram was also outstanding, resulting in many critical and wonderful concerts and readings.

The reading will take place as part of the art project "Relief 2.0". Microphone Mafia will be playing an open-air concert at UMZU in Bremen's city center the evening before (Saturday, September 28 at 6 pm).
