How do you measure a life? Success, awards and wealth are conventional yardsticks, but for Eric Bibb the yardstick goes deeper - into the questions he asks through his music. With a career spanning five decades, over forty albums, three Grammy nominations, a host of Blues Foundation awards and countless other accolades, Bibb has secured his legacy as a legendary figure in the blues and roots genre.
Eric's father, the late Leon Bibb, was a key figure in the civil rights movement and marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King. Eric immersed himself in the village folk scene in his youth and found inspiration in visiting celebrities such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Pete Seeger. He was heavily influenced by the sounds of Odetta, Richie Havens and Taj Mahal and synthesized these elements into a unique style.
When Eric reflects on his musical journey, he is filled with gratitude. His voice and guitar playing reveal his evolution, his words convey truth and promote a vision of unity amidst a world of divisive rhetoric. Eric Bibb is more than a blues troubadour; he is a storyteller and philosopher. His legacy is not just the notes he plays or the stages he graces, but the questions he asks and the hope he spreads.
