"Deutschlandlieder - Almanya Türküleri"

From 2021 to 2022, the stars of the Turkish community came together for a series of concerts. Documentary filmmaker Nedim Hazar accompanied the tour as part of the ensemble. The songs in the film are a kind of "best of" the concert series, which performed on renowned stages throughout Germany, and cover different tonalities and periods.

The songs of the first "guest worker" generation were about wanderlust, about the loved ones left behind at home, about working conditions and about life in a foreign country: "Guten Morgen Mayistero" by Metin Türköz, for example, tells of the working conditions immediately before the strike by Turkish guest workers at the Ford factories in Cologne in 1973.

The next generation produced Romeo-and-Juliet songs such as "Ley Ley Liebe Gabi" (1981) by Ali Ekber Aydoğan. After the arson attacks in Mölln and Solingen in the 1990s, hip-hop songs against racism emerged, such as those by Erci E. from Cartel or Kutlu Yurtseven and Rossi Pennino from Microphone Mafia.

In her song "Ich bin so" (I am like this), Düsseldorf rapper Tice defends herself against an overly rigid Turkish family corset. Her voice is complemented on stage by hip-hopper and actor Eko Fresh, who performs his piece "Du bist anders".

The musicians are accompanied by an international rock band, a string quartet and, in some cases, solo instrumentalists typical of the country, such as clarinettist Bellan Mustafa. The highlight of the tour is an invitation to Istanbul in Turkey - a country that some of the artists had to turn their backs on for political reasons. Like the singer Sema Moritz.

Nedim Hazar's documentary "Deutschlandlieder - Almanya Türküleri" was made to mark the 60th anniversary of the German-Turkish recruitment agreement on October 30, 2021.

Director Nedim Hazar was born in Ankara in 1960 and grew up in Sydney. He has lived mostly in Germany since 1980. He has worked as an actor, including for Hark Bohm, as a musician and radio editor. He has also been a filmmaker since the mid-1990s. In 2003, he moved to Istanbul himself, where he worked for Turkish television for ten years until he was dismissed for political reasons. He now lives in Königswinter. Rapper Eko Fresh is his eldest son.
