Eva’s Home Again

Music as a place of refuge, as a home within oneself or as a means of expressing countless emotional worlds - for singer and stage artist Eva Maria Balkenhol, Carole King's songs have it all. She also loves to tell stories with music. The two artists have another thing in common: a love of the forest and its untouched green expanses. King once described this feeling as being "wrapped in a warm blanket of nature" and always used her ranch in Idaho as a haven of peace in contrast to her stage life. She searched for home in herself, in relationships and for a place in the world that gave her peace. All of this inspired Eva to create this multifaceted program, in which she and her musicians lend sound to this longing for connection. The chaos of our existence is given meaning in this musical journey - and the unifying element is clearly love. Many people already know Eva from blues projects such as "Eva's Love Train" or the chansongypsyswingjazzband "Pas de Fromage", with which she has touched audiences with her unmistakable blend of musical intensity, humor and playful theatricality.
Udo Krüger also feels inspired by King's characteristically powerful playing on the grand piano. The pianist, who is already well known in the Theaterstübchen, transforms the songs in his own attentive and sensitive way into stories with tonal depth. Authentically unique interpretations are created thanks to the interplay between the band and the percussionist Job Verweijen, who is well versed in world music and has often astonished Kassel with his extraordinary instruments and creatively sensitive playing. Also playing alongside Eva is saxophonist Michael Frei, who delights with his melancholy, warm and jazzy playing. Philosophical thoughts and poetic lyrics interweave with the instrumental playing of the experienced musicians, and tender ballads meet energetic grooves. In addition to King's songs such as "Home again" or "I feel the Earth move", thematically appropriate songs by other artists will also be played.
