It’s really just a formality: Heribert (Hape Kerkeling), longtime president of the Lengenheide Tennis Club, and his ambitious vice president Matthias (Friedrich Mücke) put the purchase of a grill for the next club party to a vote. Torsten (Christoph Maria Herbst), a hip copywriter who’s moved from Berlin to the countryside, throws in a snappy one-liner to wrap up the dull meeting quickly. Then his wife Melanie (Anja Knauer) suggests buying a second grill for her doubles partner Erol (Fahri Yardim), the club’s only Muslim member. After all, as is well known, devout Muslims are not allowed to place their grilled sausages on a grill rack with pork. This well-intentioned idea leads, sentence by sentence, to a turbulent exchange in which atheists and believers, Germans and Turks, do-gooders and hardliners clash head-on. It quickly becomes clear to everyone: This is about much more than just a grill…

Doors open 60 minutes before the film starts. The film begins at dusk; in case of bad weather, it will be shown inside the Pelmke.
