Fab Lecture: Science and Art
Topic this time: Science meets art - New perspectives for education and innovation
We want to talk about the potential of interdisciplinary research and development and STEAM for children and young people.
We will shed light on the topic in two lectures.
Dr. Skadi Kull, head of the chemistry school laboratory "Molecules & Schools" and active in the Cluster of Excellence CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter at the University of Hamburg, introduces pupils to chemistry, nanosciences and life sciences at a high level and with various experiments.
The Cluster of Excellence's Arts & Science initiative is another approach that aims to whet students' appetite for science: images from the microworld of basic scientific research are not only scientifically informative, but also artistic in their own way with their wave-like shapes and color explosions. They are a way of gaining an insight into the underlying physics and chemistry.
Ingeborg Adler (CUI: Public Relations and Arts & Science Organization) will be happy to answer any questions on the evening.
The Chemistry School Lab is aimed at both middle and high school classes in Hamburg's district schools and grammar schools.

The second lecture will be given by philosopher, Germanist, director, musician and knowledge mediator Axel Dürkop. In his current lecture "Man does not live by the code. Why STEM needs the arts and social interaction", he sheds light on the importance of art in the natural sciences. Axel Dürkop has long viewed computer science topics from a technical and philosophical perspective. He is a passionate autodidact and lifelong learner. As a research assistant at the TU Hamburg, his focus is on researching and designing open participatory event formats where art, music, theater, literature and science meet.
