Cal Weaver's middle-class life is simply perfect: a well-paid job, a happy marriage with his childhood sweetheart Emily and two wonderful children. But appearances are deceptive: Emily is not completely happy with her husband after all and plunges into a hot night with her attractive colleague. Afterwards, she tells the surprised Cal that she wants a divorce. Newly arrived in the single world, Cal retreats to a bar, sulking night after night. One night, Cal, who is rather awkward when it comes to flirting, meets the womanizer Jacob Palmer there. Jacob takes Cal under his wing and shows him what being single has to offer...
