fem_pop: Baaba J

Baaba J is currently one of the most exciting indie acts from Ghana and will be playing a few selected shows in Germany this summer. So we're all the happier to welcome them to fem_pop. You shouldn't miss out on this - not least because you'll be sharing a (still) musical insider tip with Kamala Harris.

Baaba J is a singer, songwriter and performer from Tema, Ghana. She is known for combining Ga and English in her alternative Afro-folk and indie music. Inspired by artists such as Asa, Koffee, Obongjayar and Abdullah Ibrahim, her music explores themes of self-love and self-care while championing social issues, women's rights and queer rights.

She first came to prominence in 2021 with her debut EP Lumumba St, which established her as a vocal artist and outstanding live performer in Accra's music scene. In 2023, she was the only Ghanaian to be included in Spotify's Radar program and shortly after released her second EP Okay Baby, Let's Do This, which earned her five nominations at the 3Music Awards 2024. This was followed by her third EP In Pursuit of Happiness (2024) and its live version in February 2025.

JungleLady combines neo- & afro-soul, hip-hop and R'n'B to create an unmistakable sound that combines emotional depth with musical diversity. Since her debut album 2022, she has proven with several EPs and singles that she moves stylistically between urban jazz, reggae and amapiano without losing her own signature.
