Edvard Munch's painting "The Scream" from 1892 is one of the most famous paintings in art. Time and again, Munch depicted people and their existential emotional experiences of love, fear, grief and death. However, his garish colors and sketchy execution repeatedly caused his works to be rejected. His life alternated between intense creative phases and mental breakdowns, often triggered by alcoholic excesses. In 1892, Munch suddenly became famous for a solo exhibition in Wilhelmine Berlin, which was prematurely closed as "scandalous". Norwegian director Dahlsbakken has chosen an unusual concept for his film in order to do justice to the famous artist's torn personality: Four authors write the screenplay for four stages in the life of the painter Edvard Munch (1863 - 1944), who is then played by three actors and one actress. The four narrative and film languages unite to form a kaleidoscope that portrays the suffering painter, who nevertheless fought tirelessly for his conception of art, from different perspectives.
