The Los Angeles-based band has been a staple of the indie shoegaze cosmos since its formation in 2001.
After over two decades and a handful of line-up changes, their extensive discography includes dynamic, textured, lush psychedelic rock, including guest appearances from members of Pavement and My Bloody Valentine. The 2021 LP 'We Weren't Here' was praised for its dense instrumental blanket, where relentless hi-hats and heavy kicks coexist with dreamy drone guitars. This driving nature also permeates their new album Field, which was released on August 25, 2023 on Felte Records. With comparisons to Slowdive and Catherine Wheel, "Field" cements Film School as a clear, dominant force in the shoegaze scene. Drenched in an emotionally open atmosphere, the album is both unique and expansive, leaving the door open for an ever-evolving interpretation. Film School have never confined themselves to the rigidity of the specific, and on "Field" they challenge us to look beyond the surface of certainty and take a second look.
