The third act of SimultanProjekte 2025 "futur" ends on September 27, 2025. At the finissage, the group exhibition by Valeria Fahrenkrog, Olivier Goethals and Johanna Reich, which was created in collaboration with the architects Katrin Tacke and Selina Redeker, will be on display for the last time from 4 to 9 pm. Drinks and food will be available on a donation basis.
There will also be a future workshop using the Simultanhalle as an example. In a discursive and practice-oriented format, we will take a joint look at the future of the Simultanhalle as an architecturally significant space for contemporary art.
Visions for the future of the Simultanhalle will be discussed together with guests from the fields of architecture and art, the Friends' Association, the Board of Trustees and an interested audience. The focus will be on topics such as sustainability, maintenance and social responsibility in dealing with built culture - in the field of tension between art, architecture and urban society.
The future workshop will kick off with short input presentations by external guests:
Jan Kampshoff modulorbeat, architect (Münster)
Christian Odzuck, artist (Düsseldorf)
Miriam Hamel, artist/architect (Cologne)
The SimultanProjekte 2025:
SimultanProjekte 2025 represent the departure into a new phase of exhibition practice on the Simultanhalle site, as they break with the modalities of recent years since the closure of the Simultanhalle in 2018. In view of the changes brought about by the decay of the
Simultanhalle and the spatial restrictions imposed by the construction fence installed in September 2024, the curators are looking for new approaches: How can art
be presented and experienced in an outdoor space? And how can the location in Cologne-Volkhoven continue to exist as a historically significant and important space for contemporary art and be strengthened in the long term? This project therefore focuses on the question: What can an exhibition space be in the year 2025? To explore this and draw possible future scenarios, the SimultanProjekte 2025
SimultanProjekte 2025 presents itself as an interdisciplinary, process-based exhibition in three acts: Imperfect - BUT - futur.
Each of the three acts is part of an open process in which the artists not only show their works, but also actively contribute to redefining the exhibition venue.
The first act, Imperfect, focuses on memory and the question of how past stories continue to have an effect in today's space. Here, Filiz Özçelik will explore the outdoor space with installations and objects, with her works creating a dialog between the past and the present.
present.
In the second act, ABER, Rebekka Benzenberg will occupy the site with works that deal with protest and appropriation. Her exploration of different materials and spatial structures invites us to reflect on the current state of the exhibition space and how art responds to changing environments.
The third act, futur, looks to the future and forges a link to the discipline of architecture. In collaboration with the architects Katrin Tacke and Selina Redeker and the artists Valeria Fahrenkrog, Olivier Goethals and Johanna Reich, the exhibition space is understood as a place of possibilities and visions. In the form of installations, material studies and workshops, designs for the future use of the Simultanhalle and the grounds will be created that think beyond the current limits of what is possible. SimultanProjekte 2025 is not just an exhibition, but an invitation to redefine the exhibition space, to think about its future and to play an active role in shaping it.
