Folkwang Jazz Orchestra

As every year in January, the Folkwang Jazz Orchestra makes a rousing guest appearance at the Schmiede - a good tradition since 2011! The formation, which performs in a classic big band line-up, consists of students from the Folkwang University of the Arts and plays swinging, powerful and contrasting jazz by renowned composers and arrangers from the history of the big band. The music ranges from traditional to contemporary and more orchestral sounds, whereby the high standard of the renowned Essen educational institution guarantees a compact, dynamic but also subtle and differentiated ensemble sound as well as original and creative individual solo performances.
