The opening is the program. Artistic strategies and new formats for a music theater of the future.

Since the beginning of the year, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Integration of the state capital Düsseldorf, has been organizing the discussion series "Forum Opernhaus der Zukunft". A wide variety of aspects of the new opera house will be presented and discussed at various locations in the city. The next edition will take place on April 29 at 6.30 pm at the FFT (Forum Freies Theater) in KAP1 at the main railway station. The focus will be on artistic repertoire strategies for the opera house of the future.

The focus will be on a keynote speech by Dr. Rainer Simon, who has actively shaped the extremely successful programmatic opening and repositioning of the smallest of Berlin's three opera houses since 2012 as Barrie Kosky's personal advisor at the Komische Oper Berlin. He is currently experimenting with new, unusual formats as artistic director of the "Schall & Rausch" festival and the external venues of the Komische Oper Berlin, which is currently being renovated. He will take over as artistic director of the Neuköllner Oper in the 2025/26 season.

Kathrin Tiedemann, Artistic Director and Managing Director of the FFT, Anna Melcher, Chief Dramaturge of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and Miriam Koch, Councillor for Culture and Integration of the City of Düsseldorf, will join Dr. Rainer Simon for a discussion. The artistic co-director of the "Opera Forward Festival" at Het Nationale Opera & Ballet, Niels Nuijten, comes from Amsterdam. The evening will be hosted by TV journalist and presenter Hamzi Ismail.
