On November 7 at 7:15 p.m., a special film evening will focus on resistance, civil courage and solidarity between women. To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we will be showing two impressive short films that portray courageous women who stand up to domestic violence and find new ways of standing together.
In the film, "Aufgeben kam nicht in Frage" (7 min., Germany, 2022) by Zeynep Sıla Demircioğlu, Fatima flees a violent marriage with her young son to a women's shelter. There she hopes for a new beginning, but the fear of her ex-husband remains. The film tells an impressive story of the internal and external hurdles that women like Fatima have to overcome in order to build a life in safety. It shows that it takes courage and support to free yourself and your children from a spiral of violence.
The film, "Mulherada" (20 min., Brazil, 2018) by Ella Antoni, takes viewers to a favela in Brazil, where Afro-Brazilian Carmen and other women start a movement in the face of massive violence in their community. Together with Patricia and Luzia, they found "Disciplina", a self-defense system that offers women protection. The film illustrates how solidarity and self-empowerment can be the key to shaping a new future in the midst of injustice and threats - for themselves and future generations.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the two filmmakers, moderated by Susanne Haußmann.
Admission is free. We are collecting donations for 24/7 - the central emergency room of the Hamburg women's shelters.
Takes place in the hall on the upper floor, elevator available.
