FLINTA*s are still underrepresented in the music industry. With free:pop, we are campaigning for more gender equality and counteracting the existing imbalance. At New Fall 2024, you can expect free concerts by up-and-coming FLINTA* artists such as EBOW, Vavunettha and Catu Diosis. There will also be exciting panels on the topics of "Parity Booking" and "Migra-FLINTA*s to the Front", where experts from the industry will discuss ideas for more intersectional justice.
Equal booking: Why is it so difficult to offer a gender-balanced line-up?
Many festivals try to do this, but very few actually put it into practice: Gender-equitable booking. Yet it's so important today that feminist words are followed by action and that festivals focus on booking FLINTA* acts. The New Fall Festival itself would also like to present a higher proportion of FLINTA* acts in its program. This makes it all the more exciting to talk to representatives of the festival itself as well as representatives of good practice examples and to discuss why so many festivals fail on the way to equal booking. With Johanna Treydte (New Fall Festival), Lilou Halter (musicNRWwomen*/Pop NRW), Annika Hachmeister (Skandaløs Festival) - Moderation: Philine Elster
Migra-FLINTA*s to the front
Migration shapes our society, but (post-)migrant perspectives are often marginalized. free:pop puts these stories in the spotlight: The talk is dedicated to the perspectives and experiences of migrant FLINTA*s in the music business. From expectations and external attributions to the search for one's own identity between multiple discrimination and self-empowerment. We will talk about growing up as a migrant daughter* between worlds and the associated role models, our own self-image, experiences on and off stage and ways to empower BIPoCs in the German music landscape. With EBOW, Vavunettha, Gîn Bali, Pamela Owusu-Brenyah - Moderation: Melissa Khalaj
EBOW
After last year's tour of Germany, on which she celebrated her 10th anniversary as an artist
Ebow returns in 2024 with the "FC CHAYA ULTRAS" tour. We are extremely pleased to welcome her to New Fall before the start of her tour. She will be performing songs from her new, as yet unreleased album - hymns to the life and love of the LGBTQ+ community.
Vavunettha
VAVUNETTHA sees her music as a tool for collective healing and has made it her mission to create a safe space for both herself and her community. With a unique blend of poppy melodies and powerful hip hop beats, she captures the hearts of her listeners. Her profound lyrics take up modern perspectives and deal with topics such as intoxication, depression and the search for interpersonal relationships.
