Slow Club Freiburg presents:
FREUNDE DER ITALIENISCHEN OPER - Kassandras Komplex Tour //Gothic-Rock/New Wave/Postpunk
"Growing up in a dictatorship, maltreated, humiliated, robbed and enslaved, they are the product of simultaneous tragedy and comedy. Subculture and art become the culture of a disgraced generation through the reinterpretation of 'opera in musica'."
The Friends of Italian Opera (FDIO) were founded in Dresden in 1987. Their mixture of different musical styles such as punk, indie and noise rock was provocative and wild, their shows highly performative. They are known for their experimental and complex compositions and have a loyal following that appreciates their diverse music.
They have an eventful history behind them, characterized by break-ups and reunions, as well as various line-up changes. Their singer Ray van Zeschau is the central figure, who has also been involved in other artistic projects such as film productions.
Der Spiegel aptly wrote: "Those new friends of Italian opera rose from the rock underground and grew into a myth of the GDR subculture themselves. They became famous as musicians in Wolfgang Engel's Faust at the Schauspielhaus. This second reincarnation ended at Christmas 1992 (...)
They gave one last concert with a grand gesture. They disbanded and revealed their sense of a strong exit."
In 2018 they released the album "Via Dolorosa" and now in 2024 KASSANDRAS KOMPLEX are back on tour with a new album and are now also honoring us at the Slow Club.
The opera friends in the year of our Lord 2024 are:
