You might have thought that the EU's asylum system had already reached its lowest point in recent years. But far from it. The reform of the "Common European Asylum System" (CEAS), which will come into force in summer 2026, provides for brutal tightening and disenfranchisement of people arriving in Europe and is driving forward the isolation of Europe with all its might. How do we, as people living in Germany, want to behave and position ourselves in the face of these increasingly inhumane policies?
We want to address these and other questions on May 17.
From 3 p.m. we will be in the courtyard of the Ost-Passage Theater and want to talk about GEAS alongside screen printing, a flea market and pizza. Various groups that organize practical solidarity in Leipzig will introduce themselves and talk about the consequences of the reform.
At 6 pm we will continue to the Ost-Passage Theater, where we will hear an input from Ibrahima Konate, an independent researcher and activist, on the consequences of the reform and get into conversation with each other.
Afterwards we will show at 8 pm the documentary "Anachoma" (Pollák, AT D GR 2024), which deals with pushbacks at the Greek-Turkish border.
Come for the whole day or for individual slots. Admission is free, donations are welcome.
The event takes place in cooperation with SaLzig e.V.
