A Century of Water Protection

The Gut Großlappen wastewater treatment plant on the northern outskirts of Munich will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026. Since it began operations in 1926, it has made a decisive contribution to water protection in Munich and the surrounding region. Today, the facility treats wastewater from nearly two million people as well as numerous industrial and commercial enterprises, thereby ensuring the sustainable protection of the Isar River and the environment.

As a publicly owned municipal enterprise of the City of Munich, Münchner Stadtentwässerung—with approximately 1,200 employees—works daily to protect water resources and ensures the safe disposal and treatment of wastewater in Munich and the connected neighboring municipalities.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour

In conjunction with the exhibition, a guided tour of the Gut Großlappen wastewater treatment plant will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Participants will gain fascinating insights into modern wastewater treatment and the technical development of the plant.

The tour begins at 10:00 a.m. and lasts about 2.5 hours.
