Because I said so! - Feminist critique of adultism and the power of adults with Sookee
Adultism refers to the social power relationship between adults and children or young people.
For adults who work and/or live with children and young people, these dynamic power structures take on a real form every day:
What do I trust children to do, what do I demand of them?
What do I think I know better and therefore have the right to decide on their behalf - even against their will or their needs?
Where am I perhaps even overstepping boundaries and using my adult power to the detriment of children?
How do I recognize and reflect on the threshold between assuming responsibility and exercising violence in a capitalist, partriarchal society in which we ourselves are under pressure?
And what does this mean against the backdrop of structural issues such as educational and gender equality or political participation, in which children must be seen not as individuals but as a social group?
The lecture is intended as an invitation to allow self-critical reflection, through which everyone can only gain - in the sense of emancipative, solidary coexistence
