Gête wa subete wo itta (Goethe hat alles gesagt). Lesung mit dem japanischen Autor Yui Suzuki
In the organizer's words:
In January 2025, the prestigious Japanese Akutagawa Literary Prize was awarded for the first time to an author born in the 21st century. Yui Suzuki, currently a graduate student studying English literature, was awarded the prestigious literary prize at the age of 24 for his novel “Gête wa subete wo itta (Goethe Said It All)” and brought a new wave of public attention in Japan to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the literary heavyweight of German classicism.
As part of Yui Suzuki’s reading tour to Germany, scheduled to coincide with Goethe’s birthday in 2026, Suzuki’s novel—with its approach to the German “national poet” that is both highly knowledgeable and youthfully fresh—is to be brought back to Germany and spark a transcultural dialogue on contemporary approaches to the canon of classical literature.
