What does it mean to be a girl in today’s world? This documentary explores the longing of girls from six countries for a self-determined life in freedom, their desire to fall in love without being patronized, without control over their bodies, and with equal rights. 

They are 14–16 years old and are fighting against the circumstances, expectations, and obstacles in their countries and their personal environments. Nancy, for example, fled genital mutilation in Tanzania and now lives in a shelter. Selena, in Santiago, Chile, was born in a boy’s body but has known since she was four that she is a girl. Sheelan is a Yazidi girl who fled the genocide in northern Iraq with her mother and now lives in Tübingen. In England, 16-year-old Paige decided against having an abortion. Nina, a Romani woman, was deported with her family from Germany to Serbia …and Sinai, in South Korea, is refusing to undergo cosmetic surgery and is training for the BMX World Championships. What they all want most of all: the chance to live a self-determined, free life.
