„Special Screening": STAATSSCHUTZ
In the organizer's words:
... followed by a discussion with director Faraz Shariat, activist Newroz Duma, and attorney and criminal defense lawyer Dr. Kati Lang. Opening remarks by Alexander Schwarz (legal expert at ECCHR). In cooperation with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
When newly licensed prosecutor Seyo Kim takes her first job, she has no idea what corrupt structures she will soon have to confront. She narrowly survives a racist arson attack and decides to investigate the case herself. But instead of finding answers, she encounters a wall of silence “within her own ranks”: Chief Prosecutor Forch downplays the crime. Defying explicit orders and fierce resistance from her own agency, Seyo takes on the seemingly all-powerful judicial system. In a climate of mistrust, she finds two allies in attorney Alexandra Tiedemann and her friend Ayten Alican, an employee of the district attorney’s office. Under constant threat, Seyo fights alongside them for the integrity of the law—by any means necessary and not just in court.
Based on a screenplay by Claudia Schaefer, Sun-Ju Choi, and Jee-Un Kim—the result of several years of intensive research—and produced once again in collaboration with Paulina Lorenz, his own company Jünglinge Film, and Jorgo Narjes, Faraz Shariat presents a film whose urgency and power are unparalleled. Provocative and angry, yet never without hope, *STAATSSCHUTZ* tells a story of resistance and explores the question of whether a corrupt system can be saved from within.
STAATSSCHUTZ opens nationwide on August 27 in theaters, distributed by Plaion Pictures.
