The tragedy of a promising young man who is burdened with a task too heavy for him to bear—one that causes him to fail and ultimately leads to his downfall—symbolizes here a new generation, its values and ideals, and its decision to rise up against the abuse of power, manipulation, and corruption in politics and to restore justice. Through intense physicality and symbolic costumes, the production highlights the archetypal characteristics and ambivalences of the characters, while a simple, poetic visual language allows the audience to focus on Shakespeare’s exploration of human nature and his linguistic masterpiece.
