Live concerts, experimental music formats, talks, and more. You can look forward to international and local artists, world premieres, and music in all its forms—from large stages to intimate club shows.
GRENZKONTROLLE plays hyper-contemporary punk, charged with political urgency and the ambition not only to reflect the present but to actively intervene in it. At the heart of the band is their singer, Don L. Gaspár Ali—a writer, poet, and activist who understands the power of language and consciously factors in its potential fallout. With their debut single “Revolution,” the quartet—which, alongside Ali, consists of Roza Roth (drums), Kodia Funk (guitar), and Schuttland (bass)—as a precise barometer of a social climate in which tensions can no longer be concealed. The shift to the right, the resurgence of authoritarian ways of thinking: for GRENZKONTROLLE, these are not abstract developments, but concrete calls to action—especially given their self-identification as a punk band. Musically, their sound is permeated by echoes of classic post-punk, infused with the experimental impulses of the Neue Deutsche Welle and the immediacy of contemporary rap aesthetics. Lyrically, they address the pressing conflicts of the present: skyrocketing rents, political polarization, and the climate crisis. GRENZKONTROLLE function equally as a sounding board and a disruptive force. This ambition is also expressed visually: references to Comme des Garçons or Yohji Yamamoto meet punk DIY and the style-conscious self-presentation of Sapeur culture. Their debut EP, “Edelweiß,” leaves no doubt: GRENZKONTROLLE aims not merely to diagnose, but to spark collective action. Their central question is directed at all of us: What role do we want to play in this world? Their advice: Take a stand, form alliances, take action!
