Jassin Awadallah’s music reveals a great deal about life in his home region of Saxony-Anhalt. It’s about enduring the political and social conditions, about staying despite all these adversities, but also about fleeing. With his vivid lyrics, the 21-year-old creates more reality in a single song than can be found in some lengthy books about “the region.” Lutherstadt Wittenberg is not just a backdrop but also a central figure in his debut album, set for release in late 2025. Its title, “Arsenalplatz,” already refers to a central hangout in the city—the square can also be seen in the video for the track of the same name: an open space, yet also barren and forlorn. Jassin creates the missing meaning himself, cutting through the hazy cloud rap with clear words—even if they often speak only of his own confusion and inner turmoil. The chorus of “Arsenalplatz” goes: “I tell my therapist / it’s not about finding yourself / but about losing yourself.” Jassin has already collaborated with Disarstar and Trettmann, headlined his own sold-out tours, and played support slots for RIN, Paula Hartmann, Trettmann, and many others. Tenderness is a weapon.
