Our world seems like a dystopia. As society around the world moves ever closer to political abysses, gloomy visions of the future seem ever more credible. What might these future societies look like? Will isolation, competition and black-and-white thinking continue to dominate our lives? Or is the possibility of new spaces opening up in the cracks of the old world also conceivable?
The GREY dance project by Serhat "Saïd" Perhat and Sophie Haydee Colindres Zühlke searches for these in-between spaces. Nine people meet and explore together on stage what separates them, what connects them and how a larger whole can be formed from individual parts. Against the backdrop of a dystopian world, in the underground of a future city, the individual personalities and stories of the dancers gradually emerge. They search for their own way in a harsh society, but gradually begin to approach, influence and inspire each other in their different movements until a vibrant interplay emerges. The performance combines contemporary dance with urban aesthetics. It shows how dance as a form of expression can bring personal stories to life as a communal experience in urban space.
