Grounded Outer Space People

In the organizer's words:

Anton Kats (* 1983, Kherson) presents Grounded Outer Space People, an ephemeral and ever-changing artist residency and ensemble that explores the relationship between transmigration and music. The current edition is created together with the invited artists Hiromu Seifert, Natalie Greffel and Nima Séne.

During a one-week program at KW, sonic, textual, visual and performative material will be developed through improvisation and collective listening. The Open Studio invites the public to participate in the collective process, which culminates in a final concert at KW Institute for Contemporary Art at the end of the residency. The project approaches imaginative and planetary thinking through sound and understands music as a practice of interweaving across bodies, histories and geographies.

Grounded Outer Space People is interdisciplinary and open-ended, based on Kats' multi-faceted practice between music, radio, installation and publication. The project draws on Kats' concept of "sonic antifascism" and Ukrainian cosmism, approaching its imaginative and planetary thinking through sound. Inspired by Chicago Boys: While we were singing, they were dreaming by Hiwa K and the artist and philosopher Fedir Tetyanych (1942-2007), among others, the ensemble understands music as a practice of interweaving bodies, histories and geographies.
