Guilt & Shame

In the organizer's words:

In collaboration with the Ukrainian art organization TU Mariupol, we are transforming the railroad arch of the Trimbornstraße S-Bahn station in Cologne-Kalk into an open-air exhibition space: works of art, music and installations await you!

Posters, banners, billboards: they are everywhere in the city and influence us - often unconsciously. We make use of this! We are transforming the advertising spaces at the Kalk S-Bahn underpass into picture frames: In a public exhibition under the Trimbornstraße railroad arch, we are showing works by Ukrainian artists who are sometimes unable, not allowed or unwilling to leave Ukraine. Video art and a walk-in installation around the S-Bahn station invite you to meet people from Ukraine.

What is it about?

The theme of the art project is the feelings of "guilt & shame": our everyday lives quickly make us forget what is happening in other places in the world and in Europe. What does the everyday life of a person near the Ukrainian front look like? What are the common themes? Where, how and when can we meet - without a physical location? And: What's happening in someone else's misery?

Background
The cultural production bridgeworks is working together with the Ukrainian artists of the TU Mariupol platform to find artistic ways of collaboration and encounter. With the project "Arts and Urban Spaces // Guilt & Shame", we invite passers-by to stop, look, reflect and make new encounters.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne.
