Gypsy Jazz Days Munich

Since 2015, the Gypsy Jazz Days have been an annual highlight for fans of music in the tradition of Django Reinhardt. The Munich scene has produced some impressive artists. On the second night at the Silbersaal, two of them will be performing.

Sunny Franz & Elias Prinz Ensemble

Sunny Franz and Elias Prinz represent a young generation of musicians who are embracing German-style Sinti swing in a refreshing way. The music of Schnuckenack Reinhardt, Titi Winterstein, and Häns’che Weiss takes center stage in the program: fast-paced swing compositions, virtuoso csárdás, and playful valse musette. Sunny Franz, son of jazz violinist Romeo Franz, is a prize winner of “Jugend musiziert” and has already performed at the Django Reinhardt Festival. Elias Prinz is the winner of the Kurt Maas Award and the BMW Young Artist Jazz Award.

Gigi Electric Quartet

Based in Turin, Giangiacomo Rosso has carved out a solid place for himself in the European Gypsy Swing scene. For the past two years, he has been an integral part of the Munich scene, where he regularly performs alongside Julia Hornung. His new project consistently builds on Django Reinhardt’s late-career turn toward American jazz: featuring a lineup of top-tier musicians, he creates an urban groove with the Gigi Electric Quartet that brings the timeless aesthetic of the Django sound into the present.
