Sign language poetry challenges the traditional definition of literature as text and finds a poetic language beyond writing and words. The project handpicked brings sign language and spoken language poetry into dialogue: Hearing and Deaf poets, performers and translators come together in workshops and events and translate each other. Two poets from the project - Jonathan Savkin and Anna Hetzer - and the initiator Franziska Winkler present their texts, sign language poetry and translations at the Jugendkunstschule Lichtenberg and talk about the project and the joint translation process. Jonathan Savkin (born 1996 in Munich) is a deaf sign language poet and performer, among others as part of the duo JONU. Anna Hetzer (born 1986 in Hannover)
is a hearing poet and translator, most recently published in 2022 the volumes Pandoras Playbox (Verlagshaus Berlin) and Schaum (SUKULTUR).
The event will take place in German spoken and signed language and will be interpreted.
