When Hania Rani presented "Hello", a foretaste of the new album "Ghosts" this spring, it came as a surprise to quite a few people who appreciate her work. The mischievous melody, the eloquent Rhodes piano, the sparkling synthesizers and the rhythms offered few clues to the New Classical style with which she had previously often been associated. But anyone who has experienced Rani live over the last two years can testify to the fact that her work is constantly evolving and that she is always switching nimbly between musical worlds: as a composer, singer, songwriter and producer. "Ghosts" builds on her earlier successes "Esja" and "Home", but expands her still minimal setup of piano, keyboards and synthesizers - especially with her beguiling voice. With "Ghosts", Hania Rani puts her songwriting and her voice in the foreground.
